Extension of the Palais des Sports de Lattes: A Functional and Harmonious Evolution in Service of Sport

The extension of the Palais des Sports de Lattes is part of the continuity of an existing facility built in 1992. This venue hosts sports associations and, more particularly, the Basket Lattes-Montpellier Agglomération (BLMA). The main objective of this project is to increase the seating capacity of the main hall from 1,040 to 1,499 seats, while providing an architectural solution tailored to the functional needs of the site.
The project is set in a context characterized by a high level of sporting activity and aims to optimize the spaces while enhancing their accessibility and conviviality. The consideration of previous extensions, particularly the one from 2006, guides the design towards a global coherence and a harmonious evolution of the site.

A Design Focused on Space Optimization

The extension is based on a logic of openness and connection. The continuity of the southwest facade enhances the clarity of access points and the fluidity of circulation. Additionally, large, specific sports areas structure the internal organization of the building.

The Extension: An Opening onto Architectural Continuity

The visual identity of the extension is ensured by a light-colored cladding that conveys both lightness and sobriety. The rhythmic openings create a subtle interplay between natural light and the intimacy of the spaces. An integrated base harmonizes the existing crawl space and concrete understructure while ensuring a smooth transition with the parking lot and surrounding areas.

This extension reflects a desire to create a functional and sustainable facility, capable of meeting the needs of a diverse audience and fitting into a long-term evolution dynamic.
