The corner of Landstraße/Mozartstraße is the most heavily trafficked intersection in Upper Austria. When the corner unit became available, the neighboring pharmacist family seized the opportunity to expand their pharmacy towards the Mozart intersection.
Maximum transparency and the idea that the interior should be visibly present in the street space were central to the design concept. Since the building is under historical preservation, the façade was color-coordinated with the existing structure in agreement with the heritage office. The horizontal lines of the existing pharmacy were carried over into the extension, resulting in a calm and understated overall appearance. The single-story part of the building was enhanced with a new rooftop structure and a green roof.
The artwork "Mary on the Pole" by artist Gustav Muher sits atop the ground-level section and dominates the recessed corner. Unfortunately, the "pole" on the fire wall is not very aesthetically pleasing, which led to the conceptual transformation into a "Mary in the rose arbor." A "wrought-iron" fence will naturally grow over with plants (rose arbor), reducing the height and bulkiness of the pole. At the same time, it serves as visual screening for the air conditioning unit and as fall protection for maintenance work.
The interior design references the existing furnishings in the old part of the pharmacy by adopting the classic wooden aesthetic and interpreting it in a contemporary way. The back panels of the furniture are designed as large LED screens, allowing the overall atmosphere to be set in any color.
