BiO URBANITY
SUN To
optimize sunshine, the typology used for the urbanization of Laubis enjoys a
North /South exposure. The housing units benefit from a single orientation
and enjoy natural lighting without causing nuisance. Outward views are
privileged, yet avoid excess thermal inputs or other types of noises. In order
to privilege visual comfort and avoid thermal losses, the building fronts are
oriented to maximize the natural southern light and minimize northern light.
This orientation enables the housing units to enjoy warmth in the winter and
coolness in the summer.
SPACE The
Laubis area remains a green-field site, the plot is in direct relation with
nature. The spreading of the residential area has considerably changed the
natural landscape of the town of Seilh. The settlement project of the Laubis
site takes into account the notion of space in harmony with the surrounding
landscape, fields, the Garonne river and the long country roads. Empty areas,
in tune with the landscape, create a feeling of space, territory and usage. The
project is about putting these notions at the heart of the site to enable
environmentally-friendly urbanization, in a sustainable and green manner. Its
objectives are to regain the pleasure of country living and to find an alternative
to our over-crowded cities and congestions created by cars in our modern
cities.
GREENERYThe
site’s natural footprint is very strong. One of the key issues of the project
is the conservation of the natural processes that are vital to sustain the
ecosystem. In other words, it is about solving the conflicts between nature and
artificialization, to ensure a more sustainable and greener development. Every
year; 60,000 hectares of green-field disappear because of urbanization. The
Bio-Urbanity project will draw the line along which both town and country will
spread out individually without a clear border. Greenery, either as
agricultural fields, public or private gardens will be at the heart of the
project as much as it will be at the heart of every household.
HABITAT The
Bio-Urbanity project offers an alternative to suburban residential housing
which causes urban spreading. The dispersion of individual houses creates a
huge loss of natural space, both private and public, and the regrouping of
housing is a rational solution to the loss of space, in order to optimize the
living conditions of each household. The single-orientation houses will be
arranged in relation to nature with an open outlook, creating privacy while
remaining in a communal spirit. The architecture of these houses creates a
picturesque language, a reminder of the old agricultural farms along the roads
of Haute-Garonne. The project is made of diversified limits and a denser
centre, linked by a pedestrian avenue favouring social exchanges.
ORGANIC
ACTIVITIES Public
and green developments are a critical element of the urbanization of Laubis.
The natural spaces will become an attractive organic opportunity at the heart
of the project. The creation of AMAP (Organizations to maintain a peasant
agriculture) promoting peasant and organic farming is the result of a reunion
of producers and consumers’ needs and aspirations. Together they set the
diversity and the quantity of food stock to be produced for the season. The
food stock can be fruit, vegetables, eggs, dairy, meat… This diversity is
critical because it enables the AMAP members to enjoy a great variety of food,
lengthen the season and limit the risks due to climate hazards, enabling
self-sufficiency and sustainability.
