The project « Esquisse », located in the ZAC Consuls de Mer in Montpellier, stands out for its innovative character. Consisting of 119 collective dwellings, of which 20 are intended for social housing, the complex is divided into only two separate entities. Our objective was to create an atmosphere on a human scale by valuing the identification and personalization of each entity.
The project thus unfolds in two entities with separate lines, connected by a fault housing a common hall. This architectural duality results in a homogeneous treatment of the matrix concrete base throughout the buildings, providing a solid and unified foundation.
Metallic details with differentiated hues bring dynamism to the white-coated facades. This juxtaposition of elements confers a captivating visual dynamic, while preserving its harmonious integration into its surroundings.
In collaboration with the artist Arkane, we took this idea of personalization even further by tapping into the universe of children’s stories. Each level has been transformed into an enchanting story, offering each resident a unique and immersive experience. This marriage of architecture and art has created a living environment where everyone feels at home, while being transported into a world of dreams and wonders.
The landscaping of the island is part of a process of preserving the Mediterranean identity of the region. The open spaces are carefully laid out, mixing picturesque calades and planted gardens, thus offering an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and conviviality, while preserving the privacy of the residents on the ground floor. Green spaces on slabs coexist with "dry gardens", where white pebbles and potted plantations create a symbiosis between nature and modernity.
