Title: Epicentral
Earth-Scape Park
Sub-title: A
refuge to common grounds.
Natural disasters are a cyclical part of the planet, however,
the human involvement on these phenomena have intensified the problem
dramatically. Since the Industrial Revolution humans have
been depleting the Earth’s resources at a disturbing pace, accelerating the
aging process of the planet. Today, a
misinformed media driven consumer culture continues feed the mass production of
amenities while having little understanding of the repercussions on the
environment. With nearly fifty percent of the Earth’s energy dedicated to
constructing, powering and maintaining buildings; architects have the unique
responsibility of leading the way for a healthy tomorrow.
The proposal for the Epicentral
Earth-Scape Park is an exploration of the urban fabric at the core of
Burbank in an effort to create a central network for efficient evacuation, goods
distribution, and shelter during crisis, while simultaneously providing an
environment that encourages healthy community congregation in everyday use.
This project is an exploration of the role of architecture
as a catalyst for efficient and preventive design measures, as well as
architecture as a forum for healthy interdisciplinary discussion of Global
Awareness.
