Sulo Development approached LJC with the challenge of designing a luxury condominium tower to follow the success of their previous residential project, Hayden. Rooted in the history and character of Chicago’s West Loop, LJC envisioned a dynamic, forward-looking building defined by elegance, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. The result is Embry West Loop, a distinctive residential tower that sets a new standard of living in both the neighborhood and the city, offering gracious unit layouts and unparalleled views of the Chicago skyline.
The Embry is a sixteen-story, 256,000-square-foot condominium tower comprising 58 residences, including duplex units, two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes, as well as two penthouse residences. Designed from the inside out, the building prioritizes column-free layouts, expansive private terraces, and thoughtfully framed views. Lower-level residences engage directly with the tree-lined streets and vibrant energy of the West Loop, while upper-level units feature oversized terraces with sweeping east-facing skyline views. Private elevator access enhances resident privacy and convenience throughout the building.
Amenities include an outdoor terrace, chef’s kitchen, fitness center, and a dedicated dog walk and spa. Extensive landscaping along May Street and the building podium reinforces the quiet, residential character of the street, with seasonal plantings that bring evolving texture and color to the façade. Eschewing the typical glass tower, Embry features a pleated bronze exterior that captures light and shadow throughout the day, complemented by oversized picture windows that frame views of the surrounding neighborhood and city. In addition to leading architectural and landscape design, LJC collaborated with Kara Mann on interiors and finishes and worked closely with Ventana to design and detail the integrated window wall system. Construction was completed in 2023, and the building is now open to residents.
