The proposed restaurant is a single storey pavilion structure to the south of the existing clubhouse. It is flanked by a covered portico to the west overlooking the Putting Green. This roofed but external area allows
al fresco dining. This portico is shielded from the wind by a 1.8m glass balustrade. The interior of the restaurant is shielded from solar gain by the portico. We hope that we have designed a building sensitive to its’ context. The façade is a simple classical contemporary elevation. Its’ sensibility and materials echo the existing clubhouse without being a pastiche.
The proposed bar and restaurant connects to an existing service corridor. This sets the loor level 600mm above grade and gives diners a better view across the Putting Green and towards the Eighteenth Hole. The new building can be accessed directly from the golf course and tennis courts or through the arched opening leading to the car park. Stepped and ramped access is provided to both entrances. The internal area proposed is 245m2. The external covered portico is 80m2. There is an uncovered patio to the south and informal occasional seating is proposed in the landscaped area to the south of the patio. The proposed pavilion is single storey and matches the parapet height of the single storey section of the existing clubhouse.
The building’s structure is expressed on elevation by the articulation of the columns and beams proud of the wall. Double doors open onto the south facing terrace to the south of the building. The proposed pavilion defers in height to the existing two storey Clubhouse. The parapet line of the new building matches the parapet of the adjacent single storey section of the Clubhouse. A shadow gap is formed between old and new by dropping and recessing a section of the back of house accommodation.
The approach to the building from the car park and tennis courts has a canopy marking the entrance. The building’s structure is expressed on elevation by the articulation of the columns and beams proud of the wall.
The shadow gap treatment of the West Elevation is mirrored on the East Elevation. The proposed materials are render and stone in sympathy with the existing building. A full height timber window wall faces the Putting Green to the west. Punched glazed timber double doors face the patio to the south.
