Design and construction for the new sustainable City of El Mirage Fire Station and Administration Building was completed with numerous regional and national design excellence awards presented to City leadership over the past 2 years since its dedication. LEA Architects, LLC (LEA) worked closely with the City of El Mirage to develop a sustainable and cost effective design that allows the facility to meet the needs of both first responders, administrative staff, and the public. Natural materials were used throughout the project including local clay fired brick and concrete masonry which is both harvested and manufactured local to the area. Security was of upmost importance to the users of the facility which dictated that the private dormitories be located towards the rear of the station behind the perimeter security site walls. To ensure that the building would also be open and inviting to the public the lobby serves both the Administration Wing and Fire Station and faces El Mirage Road to create a Beacon for the 1st Responder Facility. A Community Room / EOC serving the public also is located adjacent to the lobby which includes expansive glazing protected by a large cantilevered vertical shade arch screen as well as a protected outdoor covered patio space. Key project features include: three drive-through apparatus bays, 10 private dorms including captain’s and BC quarters, dayroom, dining room, kitchen, EOC, outdoor patio, turn out room, SCBA maintenance, decon room, physical conditioning and training / communications tower. Numerous administrative offices are provided and are separated by the lobby with kiosk info, exam room and rest room. Windows are protected by shade fins & perf. Masonry is used outside for durability, acoustics, and Thermal Mass
