GCBC is the owner, developer, architect, and general contractor for Edgecliffe Townhomes. This return to a traditional master builder role allowed GCBC extensive latitude with the project program and design. A modern interpretation of the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic, the project reflects its location in Silver Lake, the eclectic Los Angeles neighborhood where MCM masters including Neutra, Ain, Shindler, and Lautner all worked. Although focused on details and connections and incorporating key elements including corner glass, bi-fold exterior doors, and steel exterior accents, the project remains a traditional development with straightforward construction means and methods. The project utilizes the Small Lot Subdivision Ordinance, allowing significant cost savings over typical condominium developments. The project is designed with extensive green elements and features including a high performance envelope, renewable and low/no VOC finishes, passive solar orientation, water efficient landscaping, and a pedestrian focus.
