The design problematised the ‘smoothing’ of the ceiling without resorting to the standard fare of a false/drop surface construction—that is simply inconceivable to begin with given the excessively low points of many of the structural elements that defined the space.
By using linear slats—acting as baffles—combined with carefully positioned lighting, an airy atmosphere is established.
This seemingly simple act of reducing what once a cacophony of visual irregularities gives way to a stillness that affords the owners to focus on what is important: an extensive art collection that in turn speaks of what is truly of value with its stories of joy and sadness, of hope and despair and ultimately, of life itself.
