The new Salt Lake City Store is the flagship store, and the first 2-level store in the DABS’s collection. The store is focused on creating an inviting and open sales floor, which is accented by the high exposed wood clouds and the full height glass facing downtown. The warmth of the wood and natural light coming in from all angles creates a consumer experience that encourages an improved shopping experience. This facility also meets the Utah State High Performance Energy Standards, resulting in low energy usage and optimizing high performing envelope design and detailing.
The floor plan and site plan were entirely driven by the highly urban setting, with zero property lines, street front entrances, and adjacent skyscrapers. The openness of its floor plan not only allows the customer to easily navigate throughout the store but it enhances the security by having clear visual access from the cashier and managers office area.
The interiors are highlighted with black brick as a nod to the historic storefronts adjacent, and historic displays of artifacts found buried below the construction site, . The Linear Cashier Counter with single line queuing brings a new change to state run liquor stores, which have typically been more in a multiple cashier chute style arrangement.
