In response to increasing growth on the south end of town, the Grand Forks School District will be testing a 21st century academic building model at a new elementary school in Grand Forks, ND. Housing one Pre-K room and three sections each for grades K-5, the school will be built up instead of out with two stories. Each age is grouped into a Collaborate Grade Center with an unique Learning Commons and Faculty Room, and shared spaces include a Band Room, Music Room, Special Education, Administration, Offices, a Learning Resources Center (with reading stacks and computer stations), Cafeteria and Teaching Kitchen, and Gymnasium. Secured access is integrated into the design so as to protect students without distracting them, and the plan is designed for flexibility, with the option to add on three additional sections for each grade.
