HPP Architects won the competition, held in September 2011 and to which architects from all over Europe were invited, to design the new German Football Museum. The brief was to provide an architectural answer to the exhibition theme “We are Football”. The elevated box has a wedge-shaped cut-out that affords access to the interior stretching over two storeys and forming a continuous space that transmits the dynamic from the inside back to the outside. Visitors to the exhibition itself can experience a live football match in all its glory while the perforated metal façade can be used as the backdrop to all kinds of football-related themes. The concept is rounded off by a giant flat screen TV on the front façade.
