AVOLTA, a world-renowned airport commercial company, recommended us to build several commercial pavilions for Tianhe Airport to improve the quality of the airport's space and enrich the original simple and monochrome airport atmosphere.
The design started with only a few months to go on flight, the renovation in the airport is basically completed. We need to implant new structures without destroying the original structure and building decoration in a limited time.
We must use lightweight materials to build quickly and form the lightest interference to the site - light, is just a guiding concept and principle, and more importantly, how to achieve the concept of "light"? Unit modulus + factory prefabrication + rapid construction is the basic strategy to realize this concept.
I first decided to use stainless steel as the main structural material. Secondly, the device is modularized, that is, 2400 is used as a basic modular unit.
The stainless steel column is surrounded by translucent stained Plexiglas. In terms of colors, several symbolic colors representing Wuhan were selected, namely: cherry blossom pink, finless porpoise blue, Chu national red, and thermal orange - each color has the regional story of Wuhan, making it a city card that can be interpreted. These colors, combined with transparent materials, make the airport a venue that represents the warmth of home.
There are a total of two landscape pavilions and a viewing stand. The observation deck is only 4.5 meters from the outer curtain wall of the airport, which is ideal for watching aircraft take off and land up close. The gradient color of Plexiglas at the top will show different textures and colors in the light change through the skylight. The rest space at the back is designed with the letters I LOVE WH to create a space with a sense of identity.
With "Towards a light architecture" as the core, the design transforms functional facilities into urban windows with both aesthetic value and emotional temperature through the integration of technological innovation, cultural narrative and humanized experience.
