CONTRIBUTE TO A HOLY PLACE
It is rare these days to receive the commission to construct a church. Roman Catholic parish of St. Mary Queen decided to build a new church and for the exterior, architect Gunnar Daan was instructed to undertake these works. When designing furniture for a church the Catholic liturgy gives direction. The furniture is made of a contemporary durable material called Natural Acrylic Stone. Since the material can be bent under heating, it gave us a high degree of design freedom. The material helped us design furniture with a slightly curved line as a feature of each individual piece. The play of day and artificial light on the curves was important within the building and on the furniture within it. The overall experience of this element of the design will enhance the changing atmosphere of those worshiping during each service and throughout the seasons.
