The carpet gallery in The Deendayal Hastkala Sankul (Center of Excellence) showcases popular Indian carpets and is a testament to the intricate detail work carpet weavers do every day to obtain each carpet – a piece of art. The space has been designed to serve as a first-stop information center for carpets to help tourists, carpet business owners and individuals with personal interests increase their knowledge on the subject. The physical space has been divided into three areas - Carpet making techniques and processes, Traditional carpet designs, and Contemporary designs section. The gateway to the soul of carpet making has been designed to showcase the symbolic values of colours, plants & animal motifs used traditionally, and depict nature, wildlife, or beliefs and wishes of people. The entire space has been planned to be open without barriers for carpets to allow visitors to experience as close as possible and appreciate the grandness of carpet design & scale and the intricate hand-weaving by traditional weavers respectively. The Museum was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi himself.
