Located in the midst of an apple orchard, Daarsib is an inviting place for reflection, meditation and intimate socialising. It’s a gem that is created to observe the passing of time both in nature and
one’s self.
The idea for Daarsib came about when the commissioners talked about having a place simply to dine and rest when visiting their farm during their leisure time. The idea for this ‘simple’ place gradually evolved to become a plan to construct a fully-fledged villa while retaining a simplistic set of features and an airy atmosphere.
Formally, it was inspired by the structure of the surrounding apple blossoms: the way they organise themselves as a cluster around a branch. Three distinct units were used to form the building: a seamless living area with views of south, west and east into the surrounding fields, an area incorporating three bedrooms, and a cube-shaped corridor which melts into the heart of the living area and to link the other two parts of building.
At Daarsib, one is encouraged to explore the inside and the outside all at once. The inner world of a person’s life is married with appreciation of the world out there. Once inside, the subject is surrounded by total silence and a sense of isolation, yet the structure of the building and its multiple viewing surfaces invite the person to be a calm observer of the nature: the changing seasons, the apple trees, the gentle slops nearby and the glorious mountains in the farther distance.
Night falling down
Upon my return home, I shut the windows
The wind was grappling with the branches
Me alone
Alone
Sorrow was filling my heart
I felt
Someone
Out there in the garden
Was crying by the window
At dawn, a dew
Pours off the apple blossom
