The fascination of the city centre ground floors is generally associated with their relation with the public space, of which the porch represents the most iconic image. The project for the Cygnus beauty centre allowed us instead to explore the more introspective nature of this typology, working in space directly accessible from the street, whose functions require, however, a higher degree of privacy. It was thus decided to organize the space along a path that goes across the block and along which to develop a sequence of autonomous rooms to accommodate different activities, increasing the privacy level while entering the centre. The geometry of this corridor recalls the vernacular typologies, where the walls were normally aligned to orthogonal axes, which, in this case, becomes the occasion to generate passageways and waiting rooms, while the single workspaces are recognizable thanks to specific signage, also applied to the service areas, and characterized by an individual colour treatment. The transition between serving and served spaces is resolved with a series of 220cm height opaque walls, which allow a moderate amount of natural light to penetrate and accommodate, in their upper section, an artificial led lighting system with cold-warm dimming stripes.
