OOIIO was commissioned by CSA "Carboneras Sport Agency", to design a new Padel Courts complex on a fantastic location: Kite Beach, Dubai.
Padel, quite common in other countries like Spain or Argentina, is a brand new sport in the Emirates and our client wants to present it to the whole country as a cool new way for having fun playing with friends, working out your body and taking care of your health.
For it, they asked us to create a new and impressive Padel Complex in one of the best locations that we could imagine for it: Kite Beach, on Dubai´s seafront. The place where surfers and people who love sports go to relax and enjoy the wind and the great Dubai´s weather during almost the whole year.
Doubt to this nice climatic conditions and great strategic location, with a lot of sports lovers all around we decided to create a open group of structures, light enough to welcome everyone from the outside to see and be curious of what is going on inside, also thinking on the players at its interior, allowing them to enjoy the awesome sea and beach views.
We don´t want a typical Sports Center as a generic closed container box!. Not in this location!, Not if you want to show a new sport to everyone on this country!.
This is why we surround every Padel Court by a big fancy shaped beam, cladded with light canes, appropriated for a seafront location, which is doing several things at the same time:
- We catch the view from the walkers thanks to its cool shape.
- The canes façade is creating shadows inside to protect from sun.
- We divide the typical big Sports Center, more expensive to cool, into several "Mini-Sports Centers", way much cheap and sustainable to control climatically. We do not waste energy now because we can switch on and off the cooling, depending on its use.
- The beams provide us also a perfect structure to hung fabrics and close totally the Courts in the strong heat months of summer, learning from local traditional architecture.
One new Padel Court concept to promote a new way of sports buildings, more related with sustainability and the natural seasons weather.
