The project began in a residential area in Sakai, Osaka.
The site has an elevation difference.
Taking advantage of the elevation difference on the site, we proposed to lower the building level on the main street side, creating a space where the living room appears to float when viewed from the kitchen. Through the gaps in this space, the building reveals views of plantings.
The floor plan is divided into four blocks. The volume closest to the entrance serves as a private zone with enclosed spaces, while the dining and living areas are positioned toward the main street at the back. These spaces gradually open up as you move further into the house.
Since the client requested privacy, we erected a reinforced concrete wall along the lower section, which serves both as a screen and a backdrop for plantings.
From the sunken space, the wall rises above head height, allowing residents to relax outdoors without concern for the eyes of passersby.
The sunken space is surrounded by plantings, with greenery at eye level. From the living room, one can enjoy the large street trees as "shakkei" (borrowed scenery.)
It recreates a space enveloped in greenery.
Additionally, this building features a spiral staircase that allows views of the dining area with its spacious atrium, while also providing glimpses of plantings through slit windows and offering varying views depending on your location.
