Cooper University Health Care’s transformation of a retail structure at the Moorestown Mall into its largest outpatient facility is more than just adaptive reuse—it’s a revolution in accessible community care. By repurposing this space, Cooper brings cutting-edge medical services closer to the Moorestown, New Jersey community, eliminating the need for lengthy trips to the main hospital while expanding their presence in a new market.
Array designed the three-story, 166,000 SF facility to integrate seamlessly into the bustling commercial area while also standing out as a beacon of health and vitality. Through bold architectural choices like “Cooper Red” perforated metal screens and large expanses of glass, the building revitalizes the area and becomes a focal point for both healthcare and community engagement.
Taking advantage of the expansive floor plates and high floor-to-floor heights, the first level is anchored by a large central spine linking the entrance and registration area to the mall’s main circulation axis. This “Main Street” includes a self-service café marketplace, connected care technology hub, visitor support services, and other amenities, adding convenience for patients and integrating Cooper Moorestown into the overall mall experience. The overall interior aesthetic emphasizes warmth and tranquility, using warm wood tones and textural finishes to create a home-like environment. Technology and artistry are thoughtfully integrated, with immersive screens displaying calming natural scenes to help reduce the stress of medical visits.
