SVA International was appointed as part of Teyliom team for the Private-Public Partnership Project Competition for the International Convention Centre, located on Airport Road in the city of Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
As we were already involved with the master plan and urban design of the adjacent land, Akwaba Business Park, a 42-Hectare Mixed Use Development, the design approach gave serious consideration to its integration with the proposed development.
As airport road is the unavoidable entrance to the city by international travelers, it was important to pursue an iconic look. This was achieved by the use of a contemporary architectural language, which harmoniously combined dramatic oversized canopies, a memorable façade cladding and a sensible landscape design.
The program included a sub-divisible conference room for 3 000 people, plenary room for 2 300 people, multiple function rooms, and a 14 000 m² exhibition hall. The adjacent parkade building for 250 cars, outside of its primary parking role, serves as a flexible, multifunctional space for non-convention events such as outdoor leisure fairs, exhibitions and food markets.
