The local context of Brunkovec Hill is almost an ideal surrounding for a kindergarten and a children’s nursery – exceptionally well positioned urban neighbourhood with great architecture and family houses (Brunkovec Beauty), on the green slopes of Moslavačka Mountain.
The concept of the kindergarten was created by reading that surrounding urban context. The suburban matrix of that part of Kutina is a morphological model that can be recognized in the basic concept settings. Elementary morphology of the house and its contextual parameters make a system of small units and communication spaces of little streets and squares placed between them. The program task is articulated by a single module/unit which solves ALL of the given contents. The concept with small basic units/houses that pull away from each other to form interspaces makes a small children’s city. Urban character of the area forms the need for orientation through space by recognizing iconic volumes and spaces; it stimulates a typical urban situation and acts educational - like movement through a small town. The ideal unit disposition was achieved by simple positioning of all ten group units to the south and public and maintenance units to the north. Little houses/units/modules are made from the same material both inside and outside, while the interior is organized as a sequence of continuous space "remains" of communication with a meandering character. This “remnant” is a vital public content, not just a passage, but a spatial experience of moving without barriers and an area for socialization, small meetings, exhibitions, parent teacher conferences, joint performances and so on.
The simplicity of the basic concept with equal modular units allows their functional realization. It is possible to imagine that one of Kutina local contractors produces all 14 modules with 12x12m dimensions. In accordance with the concept the materialization of the ideal module volume would be in brick.
Special attention was given to the proposal of outdoor surfaces, i.e. the landscape architecture which is, in accordance with the context and concept, geometrical and adapted to all of the children's outdoor activities.
