DEA:
The campus of the Koszalin University of Technology is a significant part of the city, both in terms of its urban scale and location, but most importantly due to its function and social role. It is a common practice that such campuses are responsible for scientific development on the one hand, while on the other, they serve as important cultural centers, places where public life should thrive, both for the local community and beyond the regional context. Between the city and the Cognitarium, a new visual information system is introduced – a tower containing a multifunctional space, which can become an intriguing attraction on the scale of the entire city.
LANDMARK IN SPACE
The designed object conveys a clear message. The placement of the tower form at the intersection of the main axes of the campus unequivocally establishes the focal point of the complex and also creates a relationship with the tall buildings surrounding the main entrance to the university, thus forming a kind of landmark in the space. Combined with the significant forecourt around the designed Cognitarium, this solution allows for an appropriate perception of the building itself. Assuming further development of the area, filling it with additional volumes will not undermine the concept; thus, subsequent departments, laboratories, or commercial buildings will complement the overall plan without depreciating the importance of the new Cognitarium object.

FORECOURT
To integrate the designed object with the site and give it a public character, a type of buffer space with a diverse program was proposed. Starting from the entrance zone on the main axis, moving around the building, various functions are found. These include a sunny entrance zone with a ground-floor café, a recreational and sports area near the event hall, and a type of ‘green’ amphitheater for informal meetings or relaxation. The entire area has been enriched with significant biodiversity, which, combined with the wooden facade, fulfills the principles of sustainable development and creates a contemporary landmark for the city.
