The Clubhouse is the entertainment, restaurant and communal space of Lakeside District project, a high end township development in India.
The concept of the Clubhouse is driven by two main principles of architecture in India’s historical buildings Light and Air;
The architecture is a juxtaposition of exterior unified forms of solid mass with a contrasting intricate play of lights, shadows and natural features in the interior spaces.
A dynamic water feature, a series of cascades and lagoons create a cooling atmosphere of tranquility, culminating in a courtyard.
The courtyard which is a classic symbol in Indian architecture of something shared, a place where people meet and interact, serves also as a cooling space bringing air and light and cooler temperatures into the internal spaces in this harsh climate.
The clubhouse architecture concept is culturally and climatically responsive to its setting.
The transparent patterned walls serve as light channels. The play of lights created through these channels seems, at each moment, to be moving and modifying the solid mass of the building. It gives the sense of a dissolving mass through the constant shifting of lights passing through the voids in the walls.
The interior spaces are designed to be open and flexible to allow flow of people in an adaptable setting to suit various uses and functions.
Material specified such as terracotta perforated panels traditionally used in Bengali buildings were locally sourced; a local foundation working to preserve these artisans work, were selected to work together with the developer to produce the required panels
