One of the largest urban infill projects ever undertaken in the city, this 10-acre mixed-use development occupies the site of the former Washington Convention Center. Major planning principles include re-introduction of formerly closed streets, introduction of pedestrian oriented alleyways, and addition of an open civic plaza and new public plaza.
The development's diverse program combines residential and commercial uses above a full-site, below-grade parking level. SBA designed the two apartment buildings on the site and served as Architect of Record for the entire project. The project establishes a sophisticated and lively new neighborhood at the eastern edge of Washington, DC's downtown. In support of its LEED Gold certification, extensive green roofs, native and adaptive vegetation, and low-impact development (LID) stormwater strategies have been integrated throughout the site.
