Jersey City’s historic Engine Company #19 is nearly 100 years old, and very few renovations had been made to the two-story brick firehouse over its history, thus inhibiting the functional potential of the full-time company.
As part of the new renovations, a new stair tower was installed and the second floor personnel area was completely redesigned to bring the facility into compliance with current building codes and accessibility requirements. The design accommodates a new kitchen and dining area with night watchman quarters, private offices, personnel dorm room, toilet and shower rooms and a lounge. The renovated firehouse will now provide upgraded service while maintaining its historic character.
RSC Architects (RSC) completed this project in May 2009.
