Replacement of an existing 1950's station, this station serves as both a fire station and department headquarters. The first floor is apparatus storage and support spaces, while the second floor houses bunk areas, a day room and offices. As the highest elevated emergency facility on the peninsula, this station serves as the central response facility during all major weather related events for the City of Charleston. Key Design features included Exterior Category 5 Hurricane design, IBC "Essential Facility", Hurricane/impact resistant construction, security vestibule/force protection and seismic rated. The facility is certified LEED Silver, 2011/2014 FIERO Design Award winner and 2014 AIA SC COTE Merit Award.
