City Food is the largest gastro-space in Saint-Petersburg. More than 5500 sq. meters of different food concepts.
The customer came to us with the task of refreshing food court area in one of their malls. That was the first wave and it should become something like design and concept basis for other food courts of that company. The idea was not to create another usual fast-food space, but something new, with friendly atmosphere and design. We wanted to make people forget that they came in usual mall in city outskirts, and make it more restaurant – feeling atmosphere.
One of the best features of new concept is the connection between regular fast food brands and local gastro-enthusiasts – that’s why whole space is separated into 2 areas, but it’s almost seamless for visitors. We call them food-market (for gastro-enthusiasts) and food hall (for big fast-food brands). Besides food type, that areas have a slight difference in design and corner types. The central island location of corners in the food market contrasts with classic wall layout of corners in the food hall. The food market is more dark and private with lots of greenings, and food hall has lighter coloring and a bit simpler and durable in terms of materials and visual appearance.
That place has a huge social impact from the first days, when it opened its doors for citizens. As we said before, the mall is located in city outskirts, so it wasn’t the first place you think of when you want to eat and spend time. Thanks to reconstruction and local restaurants in gastro-space, that food court became highlight in its district and attracts lots of people from all over the city.
