Chroma is a mixed-use project designed as a source of change and improvement in the area, enhancing its growing urban context and striking natural surroundings, with the Cerro de la Silla mountain in the background.
The two principal buildings are set in a large public plaza and accommodate three uses: retail, housing, and office. One faces the other across the center of the plaza, which operates as a space of connection.
The 20-story office tower stands out in the complex, and comprises two volumes displaced at the base, with a curved outline that generates a sense of movement and produces different visual effects during the day with the play of light and shadow. Each volume rises to a different height, which serves to emphasize this movement and grants a strong sense of identity to the project. A small area of stores is located at the base together with a striking, double-height lobby. The abundance of vegetation and water helps to transform these entrance and transition zones into pleasant spaces.
The principal envelope of the tallest volume is glass, with an enormous groove that serves to visually segment the tower and convey a sense of proportion, simplicity, and purity. The second volume is also clad in glass, but incorporates a complex, intricate latticework with a diamond-shaped geometry. This texture serves to contrast the two façades and balance the architectural language.
On the opposite side of the plaza, the second part of the complex comprises a building whose first three floors are occupied by a shopping mall, followed by three smaller floors accommodating open-plan residential lofts.
The U-shaped mall merges into the plaza thanks to its central patio, around which the stores are deployed. This courtyard is covered by a vast metal lattice housing a restaurant that sits at the same level as the water pool.
In order to optimize the access routes and flows for both vehicles and pedestrians, the project incorporates an interior roadway that also serves to demarcate the two areas.
With its iconic appearance, this project represents a declaration of urban development in this zone, generating new conditions in the city. With sobriety, elegance and natural elements, the complex establishes a close dialogue with its surroundings, forming a substantial development with a top-quality commercial area and an office building of great urban significance.
