Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters engaged Array to create a 14-story building to house 60 inpatient beds, with room for partial hospitalization and outpatient services as well as shell space to accommodate an additional 24 beds. The Children’s Pavilion story isn’t simply about how CHKD constructed a building to address an immediate community need, but how through integrated innovation, collaboration and leadership, their goal was realized in a way that set new standards for how healthcare providers respond to today’s needs and anticipate the growing demand for family-centered behavioral health services.
The day hospital and intensive outpatient clinics offer a complement of step-down services to provide a continuum of care for behavioral health patients. The outpatient specialty clinics provide ancillary services, including orthopedics, sports medicine, radiology and other general primary and specialty care services.
Families are integral to the recovery and healing process and as such, all single-patient sleep rooms are designed for one parent to stay overnight with their child. Each behavioral floor includes a family welcome center and lounge to foster participation in patient treatment, with details in each room intended to promote self-soothing and personalization. On the rooftop is a large, fully-accessible recreation area with basketball and soccer play zones, horticultural therapy, and free-play zones. Flexible classrooms, an indoor gymnasium, art and music therapy, and a recording studio are also located on this floor.
A new parking structure provides 425 parking spaces for families and visitors.
