Like an eagle’s nest, the chalet clings to a steep, south-facing plot on the edge of a small mountain village in the Vaud Alps. Day-time functions are gathered in a generous space on the entrance level, while the night-time areas lie below—one floor for the parents and another for the children. The garage and technical rooms sit to the rear of the chalet, like a mountaineer’s rucksack.
Expansive openings on the south, east and west façades offer a 270-degree panorama of the Valais and Vaud Alps from every room. A broad terrace at the main level extends the living and dining spaces outdoors. The interior palette—raw like the mountains yet welcoming like a nest—features an in-situ, integrally tinted concrete structure sheltered by a sweeping timber roof frame with slender eaves. Mirror-polished stainless-steel surfaces reinforce the seamless transition between inside and out. All load-bearing elements are left exposed; floors and ceilings are clad in oak planks, and the window frames are oak as well. Externally, the chalet is finished entirely in black, lending it a discreet, understated presence that blends into the landscape.
