Cedars - Royal Automotive Club Clubhouse

Epsom, United Kingdom

YEAR
2004
This extension of the RAC’s sports facility at Epsom overlooks the beautiful golf course and rather than simply mirror the Grade II listed mansion which forms the main Clubhouse LA decided to respect the profile of the trees, the grounds and the view with an organic form to the build.

The grassed-roof and flowing design blend with the landscape, allowing sunlight in and ventilation out, the windows to the front look onto the spectacular panorama to be enjoyed while using the facilities. Inside is a new Fitness Suite, Therapy rooms, a studio and changing rooms to complement the Swimming Pool.

The cantilevered extension was designed to take advantage of the panoramic views of the golf course from the site.

The three dimensional curves of the building were achieved with insitu concrete construction which allowed the roof to be cast as a series of curving shells these shells were topped with the grass roof
