Located on Avenida Remigio Crespo, one of the most dynamic commercial arteries in the city of Cuenca, the building for the financial institution CB Cooperativa is envisioned as a new urban landmark. The proposal aims to establish an iconic headquarters that represents the cooperative’s sustained growth and reflects its institutional values through clear and functional architecture.
The architectural design serves a dual purpose: to optimize the institution’s operational activities and to ensure environmental comfort, universal accessibility, and spatial and visual quality, fostering a positive experience for both users and staff. The project integrates bioclimatic principles, an efficient programmatic organization, and a coherent image aligned with the institution’s identity.
From a typological perspective, the project is structured around a grid formed by six main steel frames measuring 6.5 x 5.3 meters, organizing a central functional bar. This bar is placed on a base occupying the entire plot up to the lateral setbacks, configuring the ground floor as a direct public service area housing teller counters, ATMs, and other primary services. An interior staircase provides access to the upper levels, where credit offices and three floors dedicated to administrative areas are distributed. The volume is topped with a recessed level that accommodates training rooms, meeting spaces, and common recreational areas.
The structural system consists of steel frames complemented by drywall partitions and aluminum windows, enabling a more agile and clean construction process, reducing intensive labor use, and lowering costs associated with mid-rise buildings.
One of the project’s key strengths lies in its passive energy efficiency approach. The orientation of the exterior façades controls solar exposure without sacrificing views of the urban environment, generating a side façade with a dynamic formal expression that avoids generic solutions. The front and rear façades prioritize views, incorporating low-maintenance PVC lattices that filter light and regulate direct sunlight. The rooftop is conceived as an open extension to the landscape, fully taking advantage of panoramic city views.
The CB Remigio Crespo building reflects a balance between functionality, sustainability, and institutional language. It is consciously integrated into its urban context and strengthens the bond between the institution and its community. More than an efficient building, it stands as a clear and honest architectural gesture: a sober piece that represents the cooperative, dignifies its activity, and actively contributes to Cuenca’s urban landscape.
