Located in Loja, Ecuador, Casa R2 is a project born from the dialogue between systematic architectural logic and expressive materiality. The house is conceived as a system of programmatic strips organized along a central circulation axis, creating a clear and functional spatial order. This internal logic is then wrapped in an expressive brick skin that responds to the home's orientation and relationship with its context.
The house is defined by two primary volumes. The main volume contains the core living spaces and is distinguished by its solid brick envelope, which opens up with strategic perforations and windows that frame views and control sunlight. A secondary, more transparent volume houses the vertical circulation, acting as a thermal buffer and a visual connection to the exterior. The project’s honesty is revealed in its material palette, where the texture of handmade bricks contrasts with the smoothness of concrete and the warmth of wood, creating a home that is both systematically rigorous and richly expressive.
