Casa Nivana is about repeat the land. He client a musical director from Hawai, choose this land like a second home, that represents a tribute for her dad and mother that are represented on the land as a bing and old cactus, also we decide to put the pool there for a remembering of his father as a seaman a sailor.
Casa Nivana is hidden on the Mexican desert that changes on the rain station. The house is on the same level that the street, so can be immerse on the land and become silent full and discreet.
The open views from both sides to the desert and the sea make you to find on a spontaneous way the natural botanical and animal life on and exterior and the same time interior.
Building in this part of México, is difficult because of the lack of good building workers and the construction materials, thats the reason we choose to use local materials and techniques.
The house has 2 areas the private is the living room and kitchen and a outside dining room also the master bedroom. With and exterior hall, connect with 2 more rooms for rent to residence artists. In the middle of the Mexican desert, between Cabo San Lucas and La Paz, the longest facade of this project face to the winds form the Pacificas ocean and the shorter face to the strong sun. The sunsets are amazing in part of Mexico thats the reason to generate visuals for them.
With these long feeling, we made stages that you catwalk on them to see the sunset, or in other way, the client can play her piano. Also the house switch the function like being the place to sit and also observe the land. All the native important vegetation were respected.On the structural way, the house has load walls and cross linked slabs to generate this wings and also is important for insulation.All the house is built with local materials, no paintings or coverings, just cement and clay .Solar power is the main source of energy that also includes a salty pool. The house has a small ecological footprint and low cost of money. On the underground spaces we put the solar batteries and storage for maybe some kind of aquatic sports.Breaking the barriers between the exterior and interior space form the desert, was the statement as the client said “everything is about the land".Casa Nivana was projected to works with the very difficult climate of Baja California Sur but also with the poetry of become one with the nature and the emotional elements on the memory of this musical director.
