The “Casa Hormazabal” is a family residence that points out the contrast among the simplicity of the shapes and the richness of the spaces and materials. The architectural design approach is based on the volumetric distinction of the internal functions of the house. The building has a reinforced concrete structure, one story, and is located in a residential neighborhood in Brasília. From the street view, there are three overlaid volumes, with two plans that correspond to the garage and the veranda. The lower volume is grey and lower, and the other two, higher and white. The higher one is in the one in the back. The internal spaces are divided among intimate spaces, social spaces and service spaces, and each of them corresponds to a volume. They are organized in a simple and functional way. Intimate spaces are on the back; social spaces are in the middle, making a connection with the service spaces, on the front of the house. The bay-windows were specially drawn to this house to protect it from the direct sunlight. The natural lightning and ventilation also come from the internal gardens to some bedrooms, kitchen, and laundry.
