The first Spa in Italy by the Cipriani group is located in Palazzo Bernasconi, in the heart of Milan, in an early twentieth century neoclassical building. The Spa is part of a boutique hotel complex with the objective of emphasizing its history through a “tailor-made” project, curated in respect of every minor detail. Divided into Spa, beauty and fitness zones over 1,000 square metres, it features a composition of precious materials such as cedar wood, French red marble, onyx and mosaic, gold finishes and cashmere fabrics. All this is complimented by a meticulously developed lighting design.
At its core lies a refined composition, meticulously crafted by combining essential elements, geometric volumes, and bespoke materials and finishes. Proportions and symmetries have been meticulously studied, resulting in a design devoid of excessive ornamentation.
The two-level SPA lobby, visible through expansive windows opening onto Corso Venezia, greets guests with its graceful lines and natural hues. Furnished with cozy waiting areas and a prominent curved counter, topped by a curved wall, the space features a beige material finish adorned with layered strips of three types of wood at varying lengths. Backlit, these strips create a captivating theatrical effect. Even the pendant light fixtures, made of coupled wood strips, contribute to the overall enveloping atmosphere from which the pathway originates.
On the ground floor, the Beauty area awaits, offering dedicated cabins for various types of treatments, as well as services for manicures, pedicures, cosmetics, massages (including couples' treatments), and a range of medical options for cosmetic micro-surgery. Additionally, Apostoli Wellness Creators has designed a fitness area on the same level, catering to Cipriani Club members and hotel guests. This area includes rooms dedicated to Pilates, boxing, fitness equipment, free movement, and a private space for personalized training.
Here, warm bronze-effect metal surfaces, full-height mirrors, ivory-coloured walls and dark grey floors with delicate veining alternate with arched openings and light circular pendants.
The basement floor features a dramatic tunnel that pays homage to the esteemed family of owners, now in its fourth generation. With its iridescent cladding, the tunnel creates the illusion of being on a boat in the middle of the sea, evoking the essence of the Venetian lagoon where Giuseppe Cipriani's entrepreneurial adventure began almost a century ago. This tunnel introduces a water-themed element and guides visitors to the two separate SPA areas for men and women. Each section exhibits its own unique aesthetic language. The women's area showcases soft, curved shapes and employs precious stone mosaics in gradient colors ranging from ivory to pink. The chromatic progression is further enhanced by the modular artificial lighting, meticulously designed by the Voltaire Lighting Design studio. Additional offerings in the women's wellness area include a changing room, a Finnish sauna made of cedar wood, an ice fountain, sensory showers, and a Hamman adorned with a vaulted ceiling entirely clad in French red marble. Meanwhile, the men's area draws inspiration from the Japanese Onsen and features a blend of wood and stone elements. In addition to a changing room, it offers a spacious double-level sauna, two sensory showers, a Turkish bath, and an ice fountain.
The two pathways converge, leading to a serene relaxation area featuring cashmere accents, a cozy brazier, and a striking saltwater pool that embody the elegance of the Cipriani brand. The pool's water surface elegantly reflects on the black ceiling and the exquisite perimeter surfaces, which are clad with large rectangular slabs of stunning green onyx. Along the side facing the entrance, the natural stone panels overlap, creating a captivating theatrical backdrop accentuated by carefully placed lighting. Hidden behind these panels, are concealed cascading jets, offering a private and immersive wellness experience.
"For Casa Cipriani in Milan, our aim was to tell a distinctly Italian story using an emotional and evocative language that could effectively convey the brand's values through a wellness experience that engages all the senses, from sight to touch and smell.
