This project stems from the Cégep de Lévis-Lauzon’s initiative to renovate and reimagine its existing library as a renewed student living environment—one that supports contemporary modes of learning, working, and gathering.
The new library moves beyond its traditional role as a repository for books and knowledge. It is conceived instead as an open, accessible, and dynamic place that fosters social interaction, education, and creativity. With the rise of information technologies, literature and academic resources are increasingly accessible from home, the workplace, or virtually anywhere. The library therefore needed to offer an enriched user experience—providing added value through atmosphere, activity, and innovative services that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
A NEW HUB FOR COLLABORATION AND INTERACTION
This vision is expressed through a high-quality architectural intervention—one that is both engaging and welcoming—but above all through the expanded role given to spaces for collaboration and interaction within the library. Dedicated reading areas and flexible rooms for meetings and exhibitions exemplify this approach.
The library becomes more democratic and open, both literally and figuratively: partitions are minimized, allowing spaces to flow into one another while maximizing access to natural light. The program of the new library embraces these evolving paradigms. The layout ensures that as many students as possible benefit from daylight, enhancing both exterior views and wayfinding throughout the building.

The library has been designed in response to the needs of students and faculty, integrating contemporary technologies while also reflecting the evolving nature of teaching practices and pedagogical models. The resulting spaces are versatile, comfortable, and vibrant—deeply connected to their environment.

Ce projet s’inscrit dans la volonté du Cégep de Lévis-Lauzon de rénover et réaménager sa bibliothèque existante pour en faire un nouveau milieu de vie étudiante, un espace de travail et d’apprentissage adapté aux besoins actuels. La nouvelle bibliothèque n’est plus seulement un lieu « d’entreposage » du savoir et des ouvrages. Il s’agit maintenant d’un lieu accessible, ouvert et propice à la socialisation, la formation et la création. Avec l’arrivée des nouvelles technologies de l’information, la littérature (livres et autres ouvrages) est de plus en plus accessible à partir de la maison, du bureau, voire de n’importe où. La bibliothèque devait donc offrir une expérience enrichie à l’utilisateur, une plus-value qu’il ne retrouvera pas ailleurs en termes d’ambiance, d’activité et de services novateurs offerts.

Cela se traduit, entre autres, par une architecture de qualité, attrayante, mais surtout par une plus grande place faite au lieu de collaboration et d’interaction à l’intérieur de la bibliothèque. Pensons aux lieux aménagés pour la lecture ou aux salles polyvalentes pour réunion et exposition. La bibliothèque se démocratise, s’ouvre davantage, tant au sens propre que figuré; les cloisonnements sont réduits au minimum, permettant des espaces plus ouverts les uns sur les autres et où la lumière naturelle est maximisée. Le programme de la nouvelle bibliothèque du cégep n’a pas échappé à ces nouveaux schémas de pensée. Le plan permet au plus d’étudiants possible de profiter de la lumière naturelle, améliorant ainsi les vues extérieures et l’orientation dans le bâtiment.
