MKCA is the design architect for a new community and family health clinic for Wyckoff Heights Community Healthcare, a non-profit teaching hospital serving the rapidly changing communities of Bushwick, East Williamsburg, and Ridgewood.
Located in the 1914 Hamburg Savings Bank and adjoining buildings, the clinic will serve a population with large numbers of recent immigrants and non-English speakers in a neighborhood experiencing rapid gentrification and demographic change.
The project is organized around clearly defined volumes and strategically placed voids that are flooded with natural light, set against the monumental 30ft tall interior of the former bank building. Moving from sunlit volume to volume makes for simple and intuitive circulation in, out, and through; and it elevates and ennobles the healthcare experience.
