Bunin is a reconstruction project of a tenement house built in 1907. It is located in the Khamovniki district - the cultural and historical centre of Moscow. For more than 100 years, the building has changed its functional filling several times: from residential to commercial. Our goal was to return the house to its historical purpose and carefully restore its appearance.
The building stands at the intersection of Plyushchikha street and Neopalimovsky lane. The two main facades were left without radical changes: having cleaned the walls from plaster, we decided to keep the facades in brick and to paint it white. Window openings were expanded, thus creating French balconies for living spaces.
The ground floor was renovated: we have enlarged the window openings for showcases of rented premises and apartment entrances. The facade was faced with terrazzo stone. Its surface was made on a small ledge, creating a focus on a new modern element.
The courtyard facade, in contrast to the main one, was completely redesigned in a minimalistic way. The even white surfaces of the walls are pierced with windows, outlined by black metal slopes. The only decoration element is the balconies' fencing made of thin brass lamellas. The inner courtyard is embraced by a gallery made of black metal; it has united the stepped facade into a single structure. Through a heated gallery, residents can go from the underground parking to their apartments. For saving space for a quiet courtyard, the entrance to the parking is via an automatic car elevator.
The whole house was divided into 30 high comfort apartments. Four of them are two-level and have access to spacious terraces with panoramic views of the very centre of Moscow.
The interiors of the lobby and apartments were designed by our team as well. They continue the architectural concept of the house, combining classic and modern styles by using various materials: from metal and wood to marble and mosaic.
