Buckeye Fire House No. 3 is the focal point of a premiere master planned community nestled at the base of the White Tank Mountains in Buckeye, Arizona. The development embraces the style of this gem which harkens classic fire station design and borrows its color palette, brick detail work, scale, and symmetry. What is important to note about this station is that it was designed many years ago, and was just recently constructed due to the loss of municipal funding. Its permit-ready design, however, struck a chord with developers and builders, who continued to draw reference to it while the development grew. The station contains four drive-thru apparatus bays, which is impressive as it is situated
on an irregular, constrained site. The facility houses typical fire station spaces—dorms, offices, living and training spaces, bathrooms, etc. As a two-story design, then project stands tall and proud along the primary access road into the development. A broad
covered terrace surrounded by prominent arches is a perfect base anchoring a brick tower that stands as a steeple amongst the surrounding residential area. In addition, the project contains a police office and community room. Precast cornice work and entry surrounds complement the all-brick facility. A durable facility to say the least, the standing seam roof, period lighting, and window casings combine to collectively add to the facility’s sense of place and safety. The interior of the facility is equally impressive, and again incorporates classic architectural styling, color palette, and firehouse favorites (such as the brass fire pole).
Terrazzo flooring, stainless steel appliances, wood toned cabinetry, and built-in millwork are just a few of the special touches this station has to offer.
The project is also environmentally-friendly, achieving LEED Gold Certification. Buckeye Fire House No. 3 was the recipient of the 2012 Station Style Career Fire Station "Gold" Award.
