The restoration of this late19th-Century historical society presented a considerable, if not ironic, obstacle: remarkably, the vast and venerable collection of records housed by the organization lacked any formal documentation of the building’s original fixtures. The only remaining vestiges were a handful of blurred, black-and-white photographs of the bygone fixtures obscured by gauze cloth.
From this minimal basis, through extensive research, Cline Bettridge Bernstein’s lighting design team created eight new custom fixtures scrupulously detailed to pass the Landmark review. Our solution not only remedied the poor lighting that had plagued the facility from the start, but met the lighting expectations of the 21st Century while honoring the building’s historic past.
