Davis Wince, Ltd. helped infuse new energy by opening and modernizing the Bromley Residence Hall on the Ohio University campus. The challenge of the 1966, 8-floor structure was to create a more inviting, functional and safe residence hall to support the changing needs of the student population.
The student lounges and study spaces located throughout the floors required visual repositioning to ensure the goals of increased visibility and opportunities to study and interact with fellow classmates was achieved. Rooms with dated finishes, outfitted with hard materials, and difficult to occupy by more than a few students at a time transitioned into highly occupied areas dramatically carved to create niches for smaller groups whose scale was further enhanced by the choice and articulation of finish materials. Through the use of flexible furniture systems the lounges can also accommodate larger groups for movie viewing. The study areas and lounges will include charging stations and multi-media options.
The renovation of Bromley Hall modernizes 128 residence rooms, student lounge areas, and adjacent support spaces. Included in the project scope is the assessment and subsequent upgrading of the high-rise residence tower’s exterior masonry envelope. Davis Wince, Ltd. is completing several phases of work in the occupied building including technology upgrades and planning, plumbing, restrooms, partition walls, new windows and fixtures from floors 2-9. Construction will be completed in very tightly scheduled phases during 2011, 2013, and 2014.
