Remodelling a circular corner of a former art deco building
Satish Jassal Architects have transformed a rundown corner opposite Bounds Green underground station. After many years of neglect and unsympathetic alterations, this 1930’s building has been given a new lease of life.
Our proposal involves removing the unsightly existing white UPVC glazing at the circular corner and replacing it with a bronze coloured glazing system. The design references the Art Deco nature of Bounds Green Underground Station designed by Charles Holden. The design introduces projecting curving horizontal lines and tall glazed window. The horizontal lines get larger as they go up the building, and it is finished at the top with a projecting visor.
An additional floor has been added to the corner, increasing the office and residential accommodation above. More importantly, in a dynamic way, the proposal marks a key corner on a busy junction of Haringey.
