Symphony Hall is considered one of the top concert halls in the world. ABA has partnered with the BSO on planning and renovations for this National Historic Landmark, originally designed by McKim, Mead & White. ABA’s Symphony Hall Master Plan, carried out during the hall’s centennial, identified needs for public, performance, education, and backstage facilities to support 21st-century musical expression. It also considered options for expansion on adjacent properties.
Since 1997, ABA has completed a series of renovations while preserving Symphony Hall’s renowned acoustics. Projects include the restoration and expansion of the Massachusetts Avenue lobby; accessibility upgrades; replacement of the stage floor; restoration of the clerestory windows; seating and platform renewal for the hall; and significant improvements to multipurpose spaces, orchestra dressing rooms, lounges, and corridors.
