The award-winning Boise Airport Terminal was part of an expansion program that included the construction of a three-story terminal building to replace an aging two story building; a two level roadway system; and an expanded air carrier apron and additional parking. The old terminal remained operational until completion of Phase I of the project.
The new terminal building includes baggage handling, baggage claim areas, ticket lobby, central rotunda, airline operations offices, concessions, airport administration and support areas, and mechanical and electrical service areas.
The terminal design is reminiscent of Idaho’s outdoor beauty, with architectural design elements symbolizing flowing rivers and soaring. Fluid lines throughout the terminal represent water movement and are juxtaposed with hard lines reminiscent of mountains. The outdoor effect is realized by using natural, indigenous materials rising from the ground, giving way to a light metal canopy enveloped by a curtain of glass. Unified surface textures, color and light are integrated throughout the new terminal. Flowing shapes and forms; along with terrazzo flooring, large expanses of glass and native materials, such as wood and sandstone; transcend the rigors of air travel.
