The story of this single-storey family house began with an architectural study of a neighboring house in 2021, when a young family with two children decided to move to the outskirts of Piešťany.
The brief was to design a single-story wooden house that they can construct by themselves.
When we first came into contact with the empty plot, we began with organizing the general layout. Our aim was to create a simple single-storey house with a high degree of privacy, that will provide more outdoor living options while offering framed views of the garden scenery. Another goal of our design was to create a building volume that discreetly fits into the existing development without competing with its surroundings.
A regular flat plot has the advantage of being at the end of the street and is surrounded by greenery. There is a small stream on the one side of the plot in which wild ducks and other animals can be seen, which enhances the rural atmosphere despite the fact that it is relatively close to the city center.
The story continued in 2022, when the clients’ brother-in-law, who owns the adjacent plot approached us, saying he needed to build a house for his mother as quickly as possible. Ideally, they would be able to use the original design of neighboring house with minimal modifications that would reflect the fact that the house would be inhabited by a single senior and two small dogs. We also adapted the interior to this assignment, so that it would appear natural, feminine and timeless through the color scheme and selection of furniture and materials.
As the core elements of the design language, we used the wooden structure, which is clearly visible on the ceilings in the interior and exterior. The ventilated facade is designed as wooden cladding in combination with Cetris boards.
This is how we created a pair of two nearly identical houses that non-invasively complement the street environment and each other in design.
