When thinking about the Northwest, one of the first things that comes to mind is water. Inevitably, as visitors to this amazing region, we are forced to interact with this natural element. Some residents of Seattle see water as a recreational source of entertainment during the summer, while others choose to embrace it as a part of their daily lives. The owners of “Big Blue” fall into the latter category by either swimming or rowing in Lake Washington on a daily basis. To celebrate this interaction the design of this waterfront home pulls some of the geometry of a rowing shell and paddles as well as some of the mechanics of the rowing form.
