In the central district of Rostov-on-Don, a young architect Roman Berdnik designed an elite fitness studio. Its activities are aimed at improving the physical activity of visitors and recovery from injuries.
The name of studio "BELKA" is translated as Squirrel and this is not accidental, because this animal becomes a model of a healthy body and proper muscle function.
Obviously, the interior was not supposed to become like a standard gym to build muscle. This is a place where people spend time in search of harmony with their own body. Therefore, for the project, the architect chose the most natural materials typical of the natural habitat of squirrels: wood and stone.
When planning, the architect paid special attention to natural light, it should penetrate into all possible rooms. And also minimized the corridors.
The multifunctional wooden frame became the central element of the interior. It separates the fitness area from the reception, moving to the ceiling, it hides the ventilation pipes and turns into a closet with outerwear. Together with the reception, the structure forms portals that escort people to the locker rooms. In the center of the main hall there is a "green" island for rest between training sets.
It was important to show the true qualities of each material, so the concrete surfaces are kept intact, the delicate tulle balances their brutality, and the old boards show the beautiful aging of the wood.
Plants also become an integral part of the interior and bring the nature in which squirrels live. For this, the plants were selected so as to resemble trees in miniature.
